What is A 1099 Misc Form?
Before the 2020 tax year, Form 1099-Misc was used to report non-employee compensation for independent contractors, freelancers, sole proprietors, and self-employed individuals. Starting with 2020, this non-employee payment is reported on Form 1099-NEC (Nonemployee Compensation). The Form 1099-MISC 2020 is now used by businesses to report miscellaneous payments such as rents, prizes and awards, healthcare payments, and payments made to an attorney.
